PINAGINIPANG HIBLA (2020)

Composer: Jose Antonio Buencamino
Sound Engineer: Sean Angelo Ilagan

This is an orchestral piece in three movements following the imagery of the creative process of weaving. The piece was inspired by the T'Nalak of the T'boli people from South Cotabato who find their patterns from nature and are gifted patterns in their dreams. This is my weave of the lines and colors that have come to me in my days, my in-betweens, and my dreams.

Composer: Jose Antonio Buencamino Sound Engineer: Sean Angelo Ilagan Clarinet Extended Technique Samples: Tony Park Visuals: Visual Artist: Manny Montelibano Additional Footage & Edits: Jose Antonio Buencamino and Biag Gaongen Movement: Biag Gaongen

The music was inspired by the flowing of the ink, of the pricking of the skin, of the steady formation of the patterns, and of war and ritual, with which tattooing is associated.

MANGA HAYOP (2019)

Manga Hayop (“the animals”, or “monsters”) is the Ibalong in sound. The Ibalong is a Bicolano epic about the formation and the deformation of the Bicol region in southern Luzon. The epic in its written form exists in Spanish as written by Fray Bernardino de Melendreras, O.F.M. in the 19th century, but the epic in its oral form predates the arrival of the Spaniards as it contains references to old landmarks such as mountains and volcanoes with their pre-Hispanic titles. The piece calls for us to reflect on the destructive capacity of an unchecked social drive to build and develop.
